Mac Sabbath brought their Mockstrosity tour to the Wellmont Theater in Montclair, NJ. Support for the tour was Metalachi and Okilly Dokilly.
To start out, I have been going to rock and metal shows for nearly 30 but I have never seen a line up quite like this. All 3 bands on this bill couldn't be more different but actually complimented each other perfectly.
The headliner Mac Sabbath plays Black Sabbath covers but alter the lyrics and song titles to fit in with their demented McDonald's theme. Front man Ronald Osbourne handles vocals and most of the on-stage antics while backed up by Grimalice (Bass), Slayer McCheeze (Guitars) and Catburglar (Drums). And yes, these guys really do play their instruments even with those crazy costumes on and they play them well. Ronald's stage antics included pulling a six foot straw out of his pants and then drinking a soda through it poured by their roadie. He's dressed as a disgruntled fast food worker complete with dust pan and showed his attitude while on stage.
The next band Metalachi is the worlds only heavy metal mariachi band. Simply, they do heavy metal cover songs but in a mariachi style. They might have been my favorite of the 3 bands, especially performing songs like Anthrax's "Caught In A Mosh" and Slayer's "Reign In Blood". Is it not easy to transition huge metal songs live without drums and electric guitars but they completely pull it off. You could tell they love playing live and were also extremely funny at the same time. I hope I get a chance to see them again because these guys are very talented musicians.
The show opener was Okilly Dokilly, a band inspired by the character Ned Flanders from the Simpsons. Playing their own brand of original metal songs using Ned Flanders themed show quotes. All band members sport the characters khaki pants, green sweater & pink polo shirt. These guys can get heavy at times but you wouldn't guess that by looking at them. They really put on a great set and are an entertaining band.
The crowd at the Wellmont loved all 3 bands and this is a tour that we need to see come around again.
