Rock Out With My Shot Out: Whitesnake- Wellmont Theater, NJ 6/21/16

Whitesnake returned to NJ for another run of summer U.S dates during their "Greatest Hits Tour". Whitford/St. Homes was support for these shows.

After covering Whitesnake last summer in Atlantic City (NJ), I didn't think they would be back in the area so soon. I'm glad I was wrong, since these guys put on a great, high energy rock show. Last summers Whitesnake show was deemed "The Purple Tour" and included songs from David Coverdale's time with Deep Purple. They also released "The Purple Album" that featured re-recorded Deep Purple songs. This years tour was completely different and called the "Greatest Hits Tour". Focusing on songs from three of there most popular albums: Slide It In, Whitesnake & Slip Of The Tongue. Any Whitesnake fan should have all 3 of these CD's in there collection and know every song they played.

Honestly David Coverdale's vocals were amazing the entire night and not sure what his secret is after almost 40 years. The crowd was very vocal most of night especially on the songs "Here I Go Again" and "Give Me all Your Love Tonight". David gave the crowd the chance to sing a few lines from those 2 songs and they did not disappoint. It was one of the best crowds of the year so far for the shows I have been to.

The rest of the band is the same as last years tour and each member got a chance to solo and show of their skills. Guitarists Joel Hoekstra & Reb Beach traded licks not just during their solo but all night long. Joel is one of my favorite artist to photograph and its hard to take a bad shot of him. Bassist Michael Devin and drummer Tommy Aldridge also had separate solos. You couldn't really see Tommy most of the night except for his hair behind the drum kit but his playing is really incredible.

Whitesnake closed the show with "Still Of The Night" before taking a final bow to the Wellmont Theater crowd. The song "Still Of The Night" pretty much broke out Whitesnake in the United States. I remember that song all over the radio and MTV playing the video non-stop in 1987.
