It's been a couple years since Scott Weiland was dismissed from STP but they have a pretty good replacement singer filling his shoes since then. Chester Bennington from Linkin Park has done all the live shows since 2013. Chester was sporting white jeans, white jacket along with bright pink hair. Chester has a completely different vocal style than Scott but he really shines on songs like Dead & Bloated and Plush. Chester mentioned how honored he is to be performing these STP songs since he is such a huge fan.
There was a couple really cool moments during this show. The first was when bassist Robert DeLeo told the crowd that him and his brother Dean DeLeo (guitarist) grew up at the Jersey shore and both were actually born in Montclair, NJ. The same city that the Wellmont Theater was located. Surprisingly, they had never played at this venue before. The second cool moment of the show was when STP did a scaled back version of Plush with Chester Bennington down front in the security pit. He made his way across the barricade singing and high fiving the fans. The nearly sold out crowd sang every word of Plush.
What does a band like STP do with a long list of hits? They can leave songs out each night or do a huge 22 song setlist (See below). It was a really great show and this was actually my first time seeing STP live.
