Daughtry - The Wellmont Theater, NJ 8/24/18

Daughtry in on the "Break The Spell Tour" and they played The Wellmont Theater in Montclair, NJ. Sinclair opened the show and is support for the tour.

It's been nearly five years since Daughtry's last CD but they are back with a brand new album titled "Cage To Rattle". Released in July, these guys are currently in the middle of a run of U.S. dates. Daughtry actually performed 5 new songs from "Cage To Rattle". Similar to his last album, the songs on the new CD have more of a pop rock feel. It's still very melodic but lack the crunchy rock guitars of his first 3 albums.

Regardless if you like Chris's earlier work, his recent music or both, you come to hear his amazing voice. You will not be disappointed because Chris Daughtry has one of the best voices in rock and hearing him live is pretty special. Chris actually did something I never saw before and performed the huge hit "Home" without any stage lights. With just Chris on stage, he asked the crowd to just light up the place and himself with their phones. It was a really cool and intimate moment that actually worked. It was just Chris, his guitar and the crowd.

Chris has a great band behind him and guitarists Brain Craddock and Josh Steely were both celebrating a birthday. Chris encouraged the crowd to sing a quick "Happy Birthday" to his band mates. Daughtry has good amount of production on the tour with an entire bank of different lights behind him. The show is beautifully lit with each song getting a different look.

It was my third time seeing Daughtry and they sounding amazing. The only thing I would have liked is a few more songs added into the set list. They played 13 songs in total so it would have been great to hear a couple more of his older songs added in.
